Common questions
- Is GRBL Server really free?
- Yes. Machines, jobs, the Library, engraving profiles, job templates, workflows, nesting and every update are free, with no account and no time limit. The only paid part is the AI assistant included with GRBL Server.
- What does the subscription add?
- The workflow assistant, answering through GRBL Server so you don't need an AI account or key of your own: describe a batch and it builds the workflow on the canvas. It comes with a monthly allowance; if you use it up, it renews on the 1st of the next month.
- Can I use the assistant without subscribing?
- Yes, with your own key. In Settings → AI assistant, choose Anthropic, DeepSeek, Z.ai, Kimi or any OpenAI-compatible API — even a local Ollama — and paste its key. You pay that provider directly; GRBL Server charges nothing for it.
- How does the free month work?
- On the app's Account page, click Start your free month — no account, no card. It's tied to your workshop computer, and reinstalling doesn't restart it. Creating an account also comes with a free month. When it ends, the assistant asks you to subscribe; the rest of GRBL Server carries on exactly as before.
- How do I pay?
- By card, through Stripe's secure checkout — we never see or store your card details. If you subscribe while your account's free month is still running, the unused free days carry over and billing only starts when they're used up. Payment method, invoices and cancellation live in the billing portal on your dashboard.
- What does one subscription cover?
- One account. Every workshop computer signed in with it uses the included assistant, and they share its monthly allowance.
- Can I cancel?
- Anytime, from your account. The included assistant keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for. GRBL Server itself, and everything you've set up in it, stays free and stays on your computer.
